Neroli Essential Oil vs Petitgrain Essential Oil

Neroli (Citrus aurantium)

Neroli is produced mainly in Egypt, France, Morocco, and Tunisia. Neroli Essential Oil is steam distilled from the bitter orange flowers of the Bitter Orange Tree. Neroli Essential Oil is a pale yellow color with a sweet, floral scent.
The Bitter Orange Tree was native to China and was introduced to Europe during the 12th Century. Neroli Essential Oil is an important ingredient in Eau-de-Cologne Toilet Water. The flowers are often used in bridal bouquets; they symbolize innocence and fertility.
Neroli Essential Oil Properties include: Antidepressant, Antispasmodic, Sedative, and Soothing.

Petitgrain (Citrus aurantium)
1 Essential Oil of Petitgrain
Petitgrain is produced from Bitter Orange Trees in Africa, Haiti, and Paraguay. The essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and twigs of the trees. Petitgrain Essential Oil is colorless with a fresh, invigorating scent.
Petitgrain Essential Oil carries the following properties: Antidepressant, Antispasmodic, Antiseptic, Digestive, Nervine, and Tonic.

The main difference is Neroli Essential Oil being steam distilled from the flower of the tree and Petitgrain Essential Oil being steam distilled from the leaves and twigs. Neroli is the more expensive of the two, but when using Essential Oils for healing purposes, sometimes it’s better to pay the extra price.

RECIPES

Nervous System Blend
Mix together
1 Ounce Carrier Oil
30 drops Neroli Essential Oil
10 drops Roman Chamomile Essential Oil
5 drops Petitgrain Essential Oil
Shake well before each use.

Treatment is by Bath – 15 to 18 drops of blend in a warm bath and soak for 15 to 20 minutes. Repeat as needed.
Body Perfume – Wear as you would any Body Perfume.
Aroma Lamp – Place 3 to 5 drops into an Aroma Dish of water placed on an Aroma Lamp. Use these throughout the home.
Massage – Place 10 to 12 drops in the palm of hand and gently massage areas holding tension. Use a circular motion and add more drops as needed.

Emotion Blend
Mix together
1 Ounce Carrier Oil
30 drops Neroli Essential Oil
10 drops Lemon Essential Oil
5 drops Basil Essential Oil
Shake well before each use.

Antiseptic Skin Recipe
Blend together
1 Ounce Carrier Oil
25 drops Petitgrain Essential Oil
10 drops Geranium Essential Oil
10 drops Bergamot Essential Oil
Shake well before each use.

Treatment is by placing 3 to 5 drops on a sterile cotton ball and use for cleaning scratches and minor wounds, insect bites or stings, and can be used as an astringent on the face after the removal of any make-up.
